PAUSE IT: What do you see? Sets, costumes, and makeup play a huge role in crafting the look and feel of a film. Working alongside costume designer Anna Johnstone, makeup artist Irving Buchman, and production designers Jean Eckart and William Eckart, director William Friedkin was able to bring the world of the infamous Minsky’s Burlesque Theatre to life in The Night They Raided Minsky’s (1968). The garish colors, makeup design, and reveling costuming seen here all give Friedkin’s Minsky’s just the right amount of seedy charm.
