We’re wrapping up our June theme of the the month, Escape, with a Color Palette for our film of the month, Roar (1981).
Take a look at the almost pastel-like shades in this still. The light and frothy colors don’t quite match up to the intensity and frightening nature of the scene, do they? Believe it or not, when they filmed this scene (which features a young man who is trapped in a barrel of water while lions swing at his head) they thought they were making a lighthearted family comedy. We now know and love Roar as a bizarre, can’t-look-away cult hit, but looking at the color palette of the film reminds us of its roots.
Roar is available on DVD and Blu-ray.
