Frame by Frame: Cyrano De Bergerac

'Frame by Frame: Cyrano De Bergerac'

Olive Films’ theme of the month, Awards Season, continues with Cyrano de Bergerac (1950)!

José Ferrer would win an Academy Award for his portrayal of Cyrano de Bergerac. In the scene below we see de Bergerac get the better of a foe with both his sword and his wit. Cyrano is able to counter every advance by his antagonist, all while providing rhyming color commentary of their duel. Director Michael Gordon works in multiple high angle shots to heighten the suspense.
