Color Palette: Lord of the Flies

'Color Palette: Lord of the Flies'

Olive Films’ theme of the month, “Tradition,” continues with Lord of the Flies (1990).

Plane crash survivors, young military school cadets on an overseas trip, make their way on a life raft to a remote, tropical island. At their backs is a particularly vibrant pink and purple sky at sunset. While sunsets are ordinarily serene, there’s something vaguely sinister about what we’re seeing on screen. The silhouette of the island juts into both sides of the frame, almost embracing the children. While what the cadets just survived was certainly harrowing, and they are all lucky to be alive, one gets the feeling that the kids know, on some level, that they’re ordeal has just begun.

You can take home Lord of the Flies on Blu-ray today!
